We got protested by wilderness advocates with signs on little sheep creek trail.

Italian peaks loop is in and SICK. Ok, maybe it's a little hard to find but still good. Little sheep creek is good as well. GPS tracks will be appended to this at some point.

I understand that I am kinda a jerk, but I would have wanted to go up there and punch them in the throat.
Oddly, I don't think that would help the situation.
Did you talk to them at all? I would have invited them for beers after the ride. Flies and honey and all that.

ha ha, actually the first thing we did was invite them for beers after the ride. They declined.
I talked to them for a bit but left before I got angry. The only two reasons their spokesperson could come up with was "I didn't want to see a bunch of guys in lycra." to which I replied by pointing out a total lack of lycra in our group. Then he said we moved to fast. Then I left.
Yes, a throat punch would not help. We must maintain the high ground.

I find it disheartening that despite us wanting pretty much the same thing as them that Wilderness "advocates" have such a hard time working with us.
If I didn't value an undeveloped, roadless area to ride my bike in, I'd go road riding. Duh.
